We are the largest and oldest Sthanakwasi Jain Sangh of
Eastern India.

Some far-sighted visionaries of the Sthanakwasi Jain community of Calcutta met together some time in 1932 and decided to establish the Sangh to organise and regulate the activities of the Sthanakwasi Jain community.

They felt an urgent need of having a place to conduct religious activities of the community. The Sangh bought a property for the above purpose in 19xx.

The present Upashray building was completed in 1951 and was enough to have the first chaturmas in the august presence of Pujya Tapaswi Shri Jagjivanji Maharaj and Pujya Shri Jayantilalji Maharaj.

The new Upashray was very lovingly christened Navlakha Upashray by Pujya Tapaswi Shri Jagjivanji Maharaj Saheb. They showered their blessings and forecast that Upashray will ever remain vibrant.

Pujya Tapaswi Shri Jagjivanji Maharaj, a very noble soul, took to santhara at Rajgir, which lasted forty five days. It was the first such santhara, which took place after about 2500 years.

The Navlakha Upashray building is one of the finest and most beautiful in all of India.

The Founder Trustees laid a strong foundation for the Sangh to grow on. They were:
1. Shri Keshowjee Savchand
2. Shri Jhaverchand Panachand Mehta
3. Shri Sobhagchand Anupchand
4. Shri Varajlal Moolji
5. Shri Vaghjee Gulabchand
6. Shri Rewasshanker Bhaichand
7. Shri Liladhar Premji
